SBI Credit Cards – EPay Kerela – Credit Card Fraud of Rs. 7924

My name is Abhay Pasad and I hold a SBI Simply Save Credit Card.

On 05th Jan 2016, I received a call claiming to be from SBI credit card department. The caller identified himself as one Inderjeet Rana and gave his desk number (011-6543-0058)

He told me that the reward point system is abolished and instead a discount card is being issued.On any transaction cash or card, I have to show this SBI discount card and I would receive 25% cashback instantly.

He requested to provide me the OTP and convinced me that this is a good and beneficial product. I thought that something is fishy so I questioned him a lot.

He knew all my past transaction details – Amount, Date & Location where I used my credit card. He also knew my past bill details and when I paid and how I paid.

He also knew my address details both personal as well as office. This led me to believe that it was a genuine call from SBI itself and I gave the OTP.

He said I would received the card and other goodies worth Rs. 8000 within 3-4 days and if I do not like the product, I can get it cancelled within 7 days.
The card & goodies have not yet been received.

This incident raises very serious questions pertaining to customer data security.

How these fraudsters got all my details? My name, Address, contact details, transaction details, previous bill details & bill payment details?
Why wasn’t a detailed advisory issued by the bank about such a fraud being active and ask the customers to be alert?
Why the bank did not black list this merchant named EPay Kerela?

I though that being associated with a Nationalized bank would be a matter of great pride and one would expect very good services.
But just within a month’s time of this association, I have become target of a fraud.
